California State Controller’s Office

If you received a letter from me, it’s because the State of California is holding money that appears to belong to you.

I’m Nicholas. I live in Alamo, California, and I locate unclaimed property the State is holding, usually money left behind under a business that’s no longer active, and recover it for the person entitled to it.

The State holds billions of dollars this way. It won’t track owners down, and connecting an old business back to a living person takes real research. That research is the work I do, and if I’ve written to you, I’ve already done it for a business connected to you.

Verify the money is real

Search the business name from your letter at claimit.ca.gov, the State’s own website. Don’t take my word for anything the State’s public record can show you.

Start below

Fill in the short form (the reference code at the top of your letter goes in the first field) and I’ll call you back, usually within one business day. No cost, no obligation.

I handle the claim

I prepare the documentation, connect the business to you as the person entitled, and file with the State. The State reviews, approves, and pays.

The State pays you directly. When a claim is approved, the Controller mails your money to you. You never write me a check.

You pay nothing unless funds are recovered. My fee is capped by California law at 10% and is paid separately by the State, only out of what’s actually recovered.

Is this legitimate?

A fair question. Please be skeptical of anyone who contacts you about money. Everything I’ve told you can be verified on the State’s own website, my fee is capped by California law and paid only on recovery, and the State pays you directly. I never handle your money, and I never ask for payment or personal information up front.

Why is the State holding this money?

When a business becomes inactive or dissolves, funds owed to it (final account balances, refunds, deposits, vendor payments, and similar) are turned over to the State Controller as unclaimed property and held until someone claims them. It’s extremely common.

Can I claim it myself?

Yes, and at no cost; the funds are yours regardless. The State’s process for a dissolved business takes documentation many people find difficult, which is why so much goes unclaimed. If you’d rather have it handled, that’s exactly the work I do.

What do you need from me?

Once we talk, typically: confirming your identity and your connection to the business, and signing the State’s standard investigator agreement so I can file on your behalf. I handle the rest.

Sincerely,

Nicholas Papiri
